What is a Cubensis strain?
Psilocybe cubensis is a single species of psilocybin-producing fungus. Within that species, a “strain“ refers to a genetically distinct lineage that has been selected, stabilized, or hybridized to express consistent physical and biochemical traits.
Strains differ in morphology, potency, fruiting behavior, pigmentation, and lineage history. Some are classic phenotypes preserved through cultivation tradition. Others emerged from deliberate hybrid breeding programs. A few are rare mutation expressions with radically altered growth patterns.

PE Lineage
Strains derived from or genetically anchored to Penis Envy genetics. Characterized by dense, heavy fruiting bodies, reduced spore production, and above-average to very high potency.
4 Strains
Classic Cubensis
Traditional phenotypes preserved through decades of cultivation history. Stable, recognizable morphology and reliable fruiting behavior. Best suited to new cultivators seeking a predictable, well-documented experience.
3 Strains
Modern Hybrid
Strains produced through recent intentional hybridization programs, selected for specific performance or visual traits. Typically combine vigor and potency from multiple lineages.
1 Strain
Advanced Hybrid
Complex hybrid crosses combining multiple high-potency lineages. These strains typically exhibit non-standard experiential profiles with elevated psilocin-to-psilocybin ratios that produce a more intense, wave-like onset.
2 Strains
Leucistic
Strains expressing leucism — reduced or absent pigmentation in the fruiting body. These display pale to near-white coloration, often with dramatically visible bruising that contrasts sharply against the light tissue.
1 Strain
Mutation / Blob
Strains expressing non-standard growth mutations that prevent typical cap-and-stem morphology. These grow as dense, coral-like tissue masses. Because they cannot form gills, they produce no spores and must be propagated exclusively through tissue cloning.
Critical Distinction
Enigma vs. Enigma Supreme
These are two completely separate strains with different morphology, propagation methods, and growth patterns. The similar naming causes frequent confusion.

The strains rated Very High potency at iMicrodosing are APE, Penis Envy, Enigma, and Enigma Supreme. APE and Enigma Supreme are most consistently reported as the most intense due to their elevated psilocin content and dense tissue. Full potency profiles are on each individual strain page.

Classic strains are natural or long-stabilized phenotypes maintained without deliberate genetic crossing. Hybrids result from intentional breeding between two distinct lineages to produce offspring with selected traits — often higher potency, different morphology, or improved fruiting speed.
Leucism is a genetic condition that reduces or eliminates pigmentation in the fruiting body while leaving spore pigmentation unaffected. In cubensis strains, this produces pale white to cream-colored fruiting bodies — distinct from true albinism. Leucistic strains in this library include Iceberg and Ghost.
Enigma Supreme is a blob mutation that prevents formation of cap, stem, and gill structure. Because gills are the spore-producing tissue, this strain generates none and must be propagated exclusively through live tissue cloning.
Blue bruising is caused by the oxidation of psilocin when tissue is broken or exposed to air. Intensity often correlates with higher psilocin content, but bruising alone is not a reliable standalone potency metric — always refer to each strain’s full profile.
